Stand out design starts here

The creative behind the work, and everything you wanted to know but didn't ask.

Louise O'Kane, designer and creative director behind LULACREATES

Hey, I'm Louise

Nearly two decades in, and I'm still genuinely obsessed with what good design does for a business.

I'm Louise, the creative director and designer behind LULACREATES. I've spent my career working closely with founders, startups and growing businesses on brand identity, packaging and all-round creative, plus some pretty well-known brands behind the scenes too. 200+ collaborations in and I still get a proper kick out of watching a brand find its visual voice.

At LULACREATES I keep things small, collaborative and flexible by design. You work directly with me - no account managers, no handoffs. Just senior creative thinking, without the agency overhead.

If you love the work you've seen here and need a creative, I'd love to chat.

Creative Boom host

Outside of client work, I host Creative Boom IRL Birmingham - bringing together creatives for regular in-person, zero-agenda social events. Bringing creative people together in real life is something I care about deeply and really inspires my creativity and work. The conversations that happen in that room are genuinely brilliant. FAQs

What kind of clients do you work with?
Day one founders through to medium-sized businesses with their own in-house teams. What most clients have in common - they're building, growing and maintaining passion-led brands with big ambitions. Clients that really appreciate the value of good, simple yet fresh design and want to work closely with someone design, market and consumer-savvy that they can trust to look after their brand and creative output.
What design services do you offer?
Having worked with many brands as their sole creative and creative director, my understanding of design and small business is expansive and diverse. But to give you a feel, here's a snapshot of recent projects:

- Designing brands
- New brand launch materials
- New brand packaging designs
- New SKU product line extensions
- Marketing campaign visuals
- Podcast artwork
- Event themes and collateral
- Merchandise designs
- UI for digital apps & websites
- Email marketing campaigns
- Brand guardianship
- Creative direction

Basically, if you want everything about your brand to look good and work well (and you like the portfolio) then we should probably chat.
How much does good design cost?
At LULACREATES, costs are scoped by project and tailored to your needs - because no two briefs are the same. Brand design packages start from £3,500 for a minimum viable brand, with more comprehensive visual identity projects, packaging and ongoing retainer support priced from there.

As and when a project calls for it, other creative disciplines can be brought into the mix - copywriters, illustrators, web developers, motion designers - giving you a broader creative team without the overhead of a full agency.

Retainer support is available for ongoing brand guardianship and creative output. Minimum booking is one full day.

The best way to get an accurate idea of cost is to book a call - so we can chat requirements and scope it out together.
What's the LULACREATES' design style?
Design and culture-obsessed, I constantly consume the way both big brands and small brands interact with the world and use these insights to inform the strategically-led creative work I deliver to clients.

I'm not here to default to doing things the way they've always been done - I thrive on fresh, clever thinking and originality. That's likely how you got to this point too, right? Emotion-evoking colour, well-crafted type, clever words and clean, refined simplicity.

How is brand design different from a logo?
To create standout brands with purpose it's vital that I work to understand the humans that drive them — the big vision, the cultural trends, the markets you move in, and the human needs that you serve. Because that deep understanding is what really helps you connect and grow in a crowded market. Yes, a logo is part of the bigger picture, but in designing a brand I also consider the other elements that help define a bigger brand world and how you show up to make impact.
How long does a brand identity project take?
It depends on the scope, but as a general guide: a Brand Foundation package typically takes up to 6 weeks from kick-off to delivery. A fuller brand identity project with more touchpoints and strategy work is usually up to 10-12 weeks. Packaging projects vary depending on the number of SKUs and whether print-ready artwork is included. Timelines are always agreed upfront so there are no surprises - and I'll always be honest if something is going to take longer than expected.
Do you design websites?
Yes, I've worked on designing lots of web, digital and UI projects. But web build is a skill in itself so that part of the project (if required) will be outsourced to a trusted developer. Website projects are so varied in scope that costings are done once we've chatted and scoped out what it is you need for your budget and requirements.
Will Louise be working on my project?
I work hands-on in all projects but also have a great network of independent creatives and developers so, where required, I can curate cherry-picked teams to help deliver on bigger projects.
Do you work with clients UK-wide or just locally?
Completely UK-wide and sometimes beyond. I'm based in Leamington Spa but work remotely with clients across the UK as standard. Most projects are delivered entirely online with no need to meet in person, which means wherever you are, we can work together.
Can I hire you for ongoing support rather than a one-off project?
Absolutely - and honestly some of my favourite client relationships are the ongoing ones. Whether you need regular design output on a retainer basis, someone to act as a brand guardian keeping everything consistent as you grow, or just ad hoc support as and when projects come up - I can work flexibly around what suits your business. MyOva is a good example of this - what started as a packaging project became a long-term creative partnership spanning multiple product launches and a retail launch into Boots.
What's the difference between a brand refresh and a full rebrand?
A brand refresh is for businesses that have a brand with good bones but need it updated, elevated or made more consistent - think colour and typography refinement, better brand guidelines, updated assets. It's about evolving rather than starting over. A full rebrand is a from-scratch project - new brand strategy, new visual identity, new everything. Most growing businesses need a refresh at some point rather than a full rebrand, and part of my job is helping you work out which one is actually right for you before you commit to anything.
Do you work with early stage businesses or only established ones?
Both - genuinely. From day one founders who are launching their first product to established SMEs who've outgrown their original brand. The main thing I look for isn't the size of your business, it's whether you care about getting it right. If you're serious about building something good, we'll get on well. My Brand Foundation package is specifically designed for earlier stage businesses who need a proper brand without the full project investment.

Feel free to email if you still have questions. Or book in for a call if you're all set to discuss your project.
